Blue turf field covered by WMTW sports news and Journal Tribune

UNE's new synthetic turf field was the focus of a story on Sept. 1, 2010. UNE is known as the Big Blue and that's the color of the new turf, which was initiated on Sept. 1 by the women's field hockey team in a 5-4 victory over the University of Southern Maine. The $2 million blue turf field, one of only four in the nation, is the new the home for the university's stick sports teams - lacrosse and field hockey - and will also be used by men's and women's soccer teams as needed. The women's field hockey team took the ECAC championship this past season. Assistant Athletic Directory Curt Smyth was interviewed for the story. The on Sept. 2nd also noted the new blue turf in a story on the UNE victory over USM, quoting UNE team members Bree Tupper and Michaela Franey.
