Biology undergraduate Kyle Martin presents at 2012 Northeast Algal Symposium
Kyle Martin, UNE undergraduate biology student in the laboratory of Ursula Roese, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Biology, recently presented at the Northeast Algal Symposium (NEAS).
Kyle examines how brown algae respond to stress and investigates the synthesis of chemicals in the brown algae Fucus vesiculosus in response to injury and plant hormones. His poster presentation was titled 鈥淚nduced Defense Compounds in Brown Macroalgae鈥 and included his work as an undergraduate research student from summer 2011, which was supported by a College of Arts and Sciences student summer research grant.
Kyle summarized his experience by saying: 鈥淚t was a great experience to present my research and participate in a regional conference with other scientists as an undergraduate student. Because I had given a poster presentation at the Undergraduate Research Symposium at UNE last summer, I felt well prepared to present our poster and answer questions.鈥
In the fall, Kyle will be a senior, working on his Honors Thesis in Roese鈥檚 Chemical Ecology laboratory.
