David Smith quoted on RealSimple.com in article about lying

David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, was quoted in an article titled "The Truth About Lying" that was recently published on RealSimple.com.

The article describes the six most common ways in which people lie, and it offers explanations for why the various types of lies are told as well as suggestions for controlling the lying impulse.

Before introducing the six categories, the article discusses the pervasiveness of lying. Smith noted that the tendency to lie is "a very natural human trait… It lets you manipulate the way you want to be seen by others."
