Karen Houseknecht’s research on effects of antipsychotic medication featured in ‘Endocrine News’

Karen Houseknecht, Ph.D., professor of Pharmacology, was recently featured in the medical journal Endocrine News for her work on the effects of antipsychotic medications on bone health.

The article, titled, “Beta Blockers May Lessen Risperidone-Induced Bone Loss,” discussed a study by Houseknecht as well as Katherine Motyl, Ph.D., of the Maine Medical Center Research Institute. The study points to the significant side effects associated with antipsychotic medication and how beta blockers could reduce bone loss in patients who use the drug.
