Pioneers of COM鈥檚 48 Hour Hospice Immersion Project present at hospice board meeting
Three pairs of students who pioneered the 48 Hour Hospice Immersion Project were invited presenters at that Hospice of Southern Maine Board meeting on May 8, 2015.
The project, piloted in December of 2014 by the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice Home in Scarborough, Maine, was designed and implemented as an experiential medical education learning model by Marilyn Gugliucci, Ph.D., director of Geriatrics Education and Research in COM鈥檚 Department of Geriatric Medicine.
The first student pair to be immersed was Andrea Gaul and Himanshu Malhotra (December, 2014), followed by Caitlin Farrell Kelly McVan (February, 2015), and then Natasha Tobarran and Taylor Byrne (April, 2015).
According to Gugliucci, the board and hospice staff were very much engaged in the students' presentation and stories, and full support was expressed to continue the Hospice Immersion Project.
