The ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ is saddened to share that J. Jerry Rodos, D.O., DSc, former Dean of the College of Osteoptahic Medicine(1979-1982), passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016.

A visionary in many respects, Rodos was a recognized leader in medical education as well as health care policy development. He was one of the original founders of the College of Osteopathic Medicine and served as the college’s most recent White Coat Ceremony speaker.

In 2003 Rodos was recognized with the highest recognition the college can bestow, the Pioneer of Osteopathic Medicine medal. The UNE COM Alumni Association also recognized Rodos’ contributions by awarding him Honorary Alumni status at the Founder’s Reception in October 2015.

A graduate of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1959, Rodos taught medical students for nearly forty years. At the time of his death, he was a clinical professor of behavioral medicine at Midwestern University, where he also previously served as dean as well as an adjunct professor in the Department of Social Medicine at Ohio University.

Rodos is survived by his wife Joyce Pennington Rodos and their two children.
